جوع الجوع، هو الإحساس بالحاجة إلى طعام. سوء التغذية والمجاعة والموت جوعا سوء التغذية، هو مصطلح عام لوصف حالة تحدث نتيجة نظام غذائي غير سليم أو نقص في التغذية. المجاعة، هي ندرة المواد الغذائية على نطاق واسع، ويمكن أن تنطبق على أي نوع من الأنواع الحيوانية، وتكون تلك الظاهرة عادة مصحوبة بسوء التغذية الإقليمية والتجويع والأوبئة، وزيادة معدل الوفيات. الموت جوعا، هي الحالة التي يموت فيها أي كائن حي نتيجة فقدان أي مادة غذائية ضرورية للحياة. وتسمى هذه المواد الغذائية الضرورية المغذيات وتصنف في ست مجموعات: النشويات، والدهون، والمعادن، والبروتينات، والفيتامينات، والماء. وتوفر المغذيات الطاقة لتنظيم وظائف الجسم ونمو أنسجته والمحافظة على صحته.
